Portal, messing with your head, for fun.

Traded in a lot of my old games the other day and bought Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat, both of which are excellent games (and both of which are quite difficult, Mortal Kombat more so). Portal 2 really stood out for me; it's been over a year now since I played the original, and returning to Valve's nightmare of a testing facility was a welcome journey.

The levels start off easy and then slowly get devilishly tricky; the harder ones bring a subtle wave of satisfaction as you lay that portal that makes it all fall into place. The co-op takes everything you've learnt and doubles it, leading to some pretty mindbending puzzles. That said, even though the co-op has quite a bit of longevity behind it (I've yet to finish it), the same can't be said for the single player. Don't get me wrong, the campaign was great. The addition of Wheatley added yet another voice of humour to the game, a bright, cheerful counterpart to the monotone, vindictive GLaDOS. However, barring a few secret areas and achievements I missed, once I'd completed the thing I didn't really feel any need to revisit it.

  1. I've yet to buy Portal 2, the sequel was a blast though!

  2. I think I've really put the single player down in this tbh; It might only be good for one, maybe two playthroughs, but it really is worth it. The co-op starts messing with your head, big time, though.

May review MK in a while.

  8. People over hype a lot of sequels when the first games were good; look at the Fable series for example. That said, it is an excellent game and I'd recommend it; It will probably still be around the £40 mark in UK stores, not sure about US.

  9. I've played through Portal 2 and it sooo worth it. Its not the longest game but it the story and gameplay make it totally worth it. Mortal Kombat was also really good. They took the formula that was worked 10+ years ago and put a modern touch on it.

  15. I haven't updated my ps3 in forever because of the way Sony is acting. My new xbox has sat untouched for 7 months waiting for a way to play my "Games" cough cough. I am really looking forward to Catherine on ps3 if it's not censored and provied it works on earlier firmware versions.
